Although founded by the Hittites more than three millennia
ago and settled on by a succession of civilizations, Ankara
was a sleepy village until 1923, when the founders of
the new republic decided to build their capital here form
scratch. As a centrally planned, administrative metropolis
Ankara offers everything that an urban center must possess.
The nation's best museum - the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations
is well worth a visit. It is nearly impossible to miss
the Anitkabir Ataturk's Mausoleum, an architectural symbol
of national consciousness. |
